Taking Control of the Dog and Stock: How to Use Foundational Commands to Communicate With a Dog

To communicate with a dog one must have a language. Taking Control of the Dog and Stock guides you through the process of how to build a language using basic commands, presented in two parts:

Part 1. Taking Control of the DOG guides you through the importance of teaching a dog to understand what the handler wants in a way to gain control and respect of the dog.

Part 2. Taking Control of the STOCK helps you to understand how to recognize how a dog can use its instinct to gain control and respect of the stock.

In order for a dog to control the stock the handler must first have control of the dog.  Jerry Rowe will explain the meaning of this phase by breaking the process down into simple steps using basic commands. These same commands will be built upon as the dog advances in its training..

Whether you are training for a competitive event, a farm dog, or a household pet, understanding the skills of training a herding dog will help you have better communication with your canine.

“Thanks, Jerry, for getting us headed on the right track in herding with our dogs.”

“Jerry Rowe is one of the premier trainers in the country. Jerry, and his wife Sharon, run the number one sheep herding training facilities in the nation. This video is an example of the world class training they provide. I highly recommend it. He explains the principles, the reasons behind the principles and then demonstrates with several handlers and dogs.”

“Jerry’s videos and training methods are fantastic!! My dogs’ performances are greatly improved using Jerry’s approach. As a bonus, Jerry is a natural instructor. His techniques are easy to understand and apply. I highly recommend Jerry’s methods.”

“As soon as he started talking a light bulb went on and I had a whole new feeling of confidence. … no matter what level of learning … I would recommend anyone interested in herding check out Jerry’s method.”

“Jerry’s approach to training a herding dog has clarified so much for me. Instead of being frustrated with what I now know are normal, logical behaviors for my dogs, I am now learning to understand and use those behaviors to help him understand what I want of him. Best of all, Jerry’s methods avoid intimidation and harsh correction, rather helping the dog to figure out how to control the sheep in a very natural way, leaving his ‘sacred’ instinct intact.”

“I learned long ago there are no such things as miracles but with Jerry’s methods and your perseverance even the most impossible dog can benefit from Jerry’s program. He offers a fresh realistic approach to herding that allows the dog to think while building a solid foundation for you and your dog.”
